As of March 2024, Rhode Island has two professional sports teams, the Providence Bruins, minor league affiliate of the Boston Bruins, as well as Rhode Island FC, who compete in the USL Championship, the second tier of American soccer.

Glendale High's most famous alumnus is Marion Morrison from the Class of 1925. He would become the legendary actor John Wayne. While at GHS, Morrison (who was nicknamed "Duke") was the senior class president, a star football player (he would go on to play for USC), and the sports editor of the school newspaper.
Probably the easiest sport to join is track. Unlike soccer or baseball, there won't be many people who have been playing for five or six years. Also, there aren't a ton of skills in the running events. Just run.
